Aberdeen Hidden Gems

Duthie Park Winter Gardens

In 1880 Miss Duthie donated Duthie Park to the city and was then opened to the public in 1883. Within the park is the David Welch Winter Gardens which happens to be one of Europes largest indoor gardens! It is home to many beautiful exotic plants and wait for it… the worlds only talking cactus. Yes, you read that right, a talking cactus! A coffee shop, water features, ponds, statues, play areas, boating and more! With free admission this is a Perfect hidden gem for all the family.

Slains Castle

Built in the 16th-century and was built by the 9th Earl of Erroll. The Slains Castle is one of the most famous castle ruins in Scotland. Overlooks the North Sea from its cliff-top site 1 kilometre east of Cruden Bay. It was sold by the Hay family in 1916 because of ruinous death duties, and the new owner chose to remove the roof and sell the more valuable building materials. Free to explore, this Castle is full of history and breathtaking views.

Footdee (Fittie)

Just a ten minute walk along from the Beach Boulevard, Footdee, is a must visit and has got to be one of my personal faves! An old fishing village at the east end of Aberdeen Harbour, founded in 1809 by John Smith. A vibrant colourful area with an eccentric mix of quirky ramshackle outbuildings and cottages. This picturesque village is defiantly worth adding to your list of places to visit.
